New development next to The Varsity

The Varsity, the famous Atlanta icon, has been considering redevelopment plans for the land adjacent to the historic, fast-food restaurant for several years. Now, a plan for new, upscale student housing is in the works. A new residential tower to overlook Atlanta's iconic The Varsity is in the planning stage. The proposal for the new development has plans for 30-plus stories of upscale housing for students. The plans for the "last great parcel" in Atlanta are beginning on The Varsity's property which is located in Midtown close to North Avenue and the downtown connector.

Landmark Properties, a Georgia-based company that specializes in developing high-quality residential properties will construct the new student housing complex. The property will be the fourth housing project for students in Midtown and downtown. The housing will be constructed on the two acres that are directly to the north of the original location of the historic Varsity. Currently, the property is surface parking. The plans for the development include a 2,000-bed high-rise building that overlooks the Georgia Tech Stadium and the Connector.

The Gordy family owns and operates The Varsity. John Browne, who is the chief operating officer of the famous restaurant has stated that the restaurant's owners will sell property that's adjacent to The Varsity's parking deck to Landmark Properties. The land is currently used as several parking lots that the restaurant owners lease to parking providers. The parcel is adjacent to the iconic restaurant which has been in business for nearly a century. The new housing development for students won't affect the operations of The Varsity. The landmark on North Avenue has been open since 1928 and has plans to continue serving customers.

The new Landmark Development tower is currently in the design phase. The developer has built a variety of premier student housing complexes. The plan is expected to include amenities that are geared toward the student market for tenants who want an alternative to living in a dorm on campus. The student residence will include a resort-grade pool with a Jumbotron, a giant video screen that's commonly used in large event venues including stadiums and arenas, a sports simulator, a full-sized gym, a sauna, and extensive spaces for studying.

There aren't specifics about the height of the student complex, but renderings indicate it should be approximately 33 stories. The developer has already completed two student housing towers in the vicinity of The Varsity. Among the upscale features of Landmark Development student housing are community rooms with pool and ping pong tables, shuffleboard, jumbo scrabble, and premium coffee machines. Some facilities also offer a convenient package room. Another feature that many students want is an apartment community that's pet-friendly.

When you move into a student residence designed by Landmark Development, you don't have to compromise. You'll enjoy convenience and comfort. The developer has built off-campus housing for students that has features that are comparable to a luxury resort. The interiors of the apartments are stylish with exclusive VIP touches. The apartments are designed with quiet spaces for study. If you prefer, schedule study groups or socialize with friends at the beautiful rooftop pool.

Typical amenities for entertainment, relaxation, and academics in student housing built by Landmark Development include a rooftop deck, a fitness center with a yoga studio, a computer lab, and an Internet cafe. The building may also include outdoor grilling areas on the pool deck, a hot tub, and an arcade and game room. Lower levels usually feature retail businesses. An added convenience is onsite management and maintenance and convenient garage parking and bike storage. The floor plans the developer offers feature options including studios and apartments with up to five bedrooms.

Spacious apartments feature modern kitchens with stainless steel appliances and gleaming granite countertops. All living rooms are equipped with TV and high-speed Internet. The apartments are fully furnished with private bedrooms and bathrooms. Each unit is equipped with a washer and dryer and convenient USB chargers in the outlets. Select units in student housing feature private balconies. Another feature that Landmark Development offers in some of its student housing buildings is a penthouse option that features larger TVs in the bedrooms and common areas, and floor-to-ceiling windows with panoramic views.
